6 Zero-Waste Swaps I Never Leave Home Without

6 Zero-Waste Swaps I Never Leave Home Without

Let’s be real—living sustainably can feel overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Over time, I’ve discovered a handful of small, reusable swaps that make a big difference in my day-to-day life—especially when I’m on the go.

As someone who cares deeply about the planet (and who juggles real life with reusable goals), I don’t have time for complicated systems or Pinterest-perfect hacks. What I do have is a bag full of practical, low-waste tools that help me reduce single-use plastic and be prepared for anything—leftovers, snack breaks, spills, or surprise shopping stops.

👜 What’s in My Zero-Waste Bag?

Here are the 6 eco-friendly essentials I carry everywhere—and why they’ve earned a permanent spot in my tote.

1. 🧻 Reusable Tissue by LastTissue

Say goodbye to disposable tissues and paper towels. I use my LastTissue for everything from toddler messes to wiping my hands after eating in the car. It’s washable, soft, and comes in a cute silicone case.

2. 🛍️ Reusable Shopping Bag

This one lives in my purse at all times. Whether I’m running into the store for “just one thing” or picking up takeout, my foldable Baggu reusable shopping bag saves the day—and saves plastic.

3. 🗑️ Drawstring Bag for Recyclables

Yes, I carry my trash home sometimes. I keep a small washable drawstring bag in my tote for items that could be composted or recycled but wouldn’t be accepted in public bins. It’s a small act, but it keeps waste out of landfills.
(Pro tip: repurpose a cloth produce bag or snack pouch!)

4. 💧 LocknLock Reusable Water Bottle

Hydration is a must, and I love this bottle because it’s leakproof...and I must admit, my favorite color. I fill it up before leaving the house and refill as needed—it keeps me from buying plastic bottles on the go. The LocknLock line is sturdy, minimal, and easy to clean.

5. 🍴 Travel Cutlery Set from Conscious Cutlery

I’ve said “no thanks” to plastic forks more times than I can count. My reusable bamboo or stainless steel cutlery lives in a small pouch, and it’s ideal for takeout, food trucks, or work lunches. I love my set from Conscious Cutlery—it’s lightweight, durable, and beautifully made by a brand that truly cares about the planet.

6. 🥡 My BYOB Collapsible Container

This one changed everything. The BYOB container is a platinum silicone to-go box with an attached lid (no more lid-hunting!). It expands to hold leftovers or snacks, then collapses flat when empty. It’s oven-safe, microwave-safe, and plastic-free. It’s become the thing I get asked about the most.
