BYOB’s 1.5-Year Impact: From One Idea to Real Change
By Rachel, Founder of BYOB
When I launched BYOB, I didn’t really know what would happen — but I did know one thing:
I couldn’t keep accepting single-use containers as “normal.”
Every time I was handed a Styrofoam box or plastic clamshell, something just felt off. It felt wasteful. It felt unnecessary. And I kept thinking… there has to be a better way.
Eventually, that thought turned into action.
Now, 1.5 years later, I get to share something that means more to me than any sales milestone:
the real impact you’ve made by choosing BYOB.
A Simple Habit, Multiplied
BYOB was never meant to be complicated.
It’s just one small shift: bring your own container instead of using a disposable one.
That’s it.
But when enough people make that same small shift — over and over again — it starts to add up in a way that’s kind of wild to see.
The Numbers So Far
Instead of over-explaining it, I’ll just show you:

These numbers are based on estimated usage but even on the low end, the impact is real!
What BYOB Replaces Every Day
Every time you use your BYOB, you’re replacing things like takeout boxes, bakery packaging, deli containers, plastic plates, and all the extra waste that comes with them.
These are things we’ve all been handed so many times that they just feel… normal.
But they don’t have to be.

What You’re Saying
“A great take-home container alternative to the toxic trash versions that end up in the landfill. Great that they collapse for space-saving storage.”
— David, BYOB customer
That’s honestly the goal.
Not perfection. Not a total lifestyle overhaul.
Just a better option right when you need it.
The Ripple Effect Is Real
Something I didn’t fully expect when I started this was how visible BYOB would be.
You’ve told me people ask about it at restaurants. That friends notice and want one too. That it sparks conversations you weren’t planning to have.
Because every time you pull it out, you’re quietly showing someone else that there’s another way.
That’s how change actually spreads. Even if these moments don't spark BYOB purchases, they are encouraging others to ditch single-use containers.
What Comes Next
We’re still early.
But the goal is simple: keep making this habit easier, more visible, and more normal.
More people using BYOB. More conversations. Less waste without overthinking it.
Thank You
If you’ve ever brought your BYOB to a restaurant, packed a pastry in it instead of taking a bag, or tossed it in your tote “just in case” you’re part of this.
And I’m so grateful you’re part of this.
Rachel
